We are a pre-hospital medical and welfare charity helping tackle the pressures on both the ambulance service and A&E departments by providing on scene care in the city centre of Glasgow helping people get the right care from the right place. Our volunteers come from all walks of life and take on different roles with the charity from being a control room dispatcher, fundraiser or building support worker to being a part of our medical street team all our volunteers bring their own knowledge and experience helping us provide a better service.
Our specialist medical street team volunteers come from a range of backgrounds including First Aiders, First Responders (FREC 3 and FREC 4), Ambulance Technicians, Registered Nurses, Paramedics, Doctors, and students within different healthcare fields.
Our operational times are:
Friday - 19:30 to 04:00
Saturday - 19:30 to 04:00
Sunday from 19:30 to 00:00 (Under review)
in Glasgow City Centre.
We also work during big events such as music festivals or other events that bring lots of people into the city centre. We work with partner agencies to help provide cover to the city on those dates.
As a charity, we patrol the city centre streets of Glasgow supporting all that we come in contact with both on foot and by ambulance. Our medical and welfare centre brings support to the city centre by allowing for a host of different treatments to be provided helping reduce the flow of people to A&E. We do this by having crews of two volunteers patrol areas of the city centre as well as having our A&E equipped ambulance crewed by experienced volunteers to transfer those who need further support to A&E safely or we can provide treatment in our treatment centre located in the heart of the city on union street.
From first aid and minor injuries to stabbings, slashing’s and major medical illnesses our volunteers attend medical emergencies such as heart attacks and opioid overdoses. We also provide welfare support when needed, supporting those suffering from mental health crises or those who may need just someone to talk to.
Glasgow Street Aid as a charity, is fully funded by public donations and grants that we receive which help us keep our treatment centre open and stock our vests so we can continue treating patients.
We receive NO government or NHS funding at all meaning without the support of the public our service would be non-existent.
